Civil Engineering Expert for

Marine Property Damages Lawsuit

The need

Attorneys representing the plaintiff, an international trading company, in its lawsuit against a marine transportation company needed an expert in civil engineering to strengthen their case. The lawsuit sought compensation due to damage sustained by the plaintiff’s marine terminal when the defendant’s boat struck it. As a result, the ideal expert would need to be able to opine on the structure of a marine terminal.

Our approach

From conversations with the client about the case, we knew the expert would need experience focused on marine engineering. Furthermore, as the case was going to trial, testimony experience was preferred.

The expert

We found an expert with a B.S. in Structural Engineering and an M.S. in Architectural Engineering. With 20 years of work experience related to management of projects dealing with marine structures, he was especially skilled in structural engineering analysis and condition evaluation of those types of structures. He had managed field teams in the inspection of waterfront structures for large companies and governments. Furthermore, he owned his own consulting company that specialized in the maintenance and development of waterfront structures of all kinds. Finally, he had prior testimony experience.
