Project Description

Magnetic Instrument Design Expert

for ITC Case

The need

Attorneys representing a multinational technology company in its ITC case against a multinational photography company needed an expert in instrument design measurement and experiment design to make their case. Due to the nature of the case, the ideal expert would need to be able to opine on lab procedures and instrument settings used to analyze magnetic properties and testing employed in manufacturing to verify product properties to ensure that products meet design specifications.

Our approach

From conversations with the clients, we understood an expert that had experience specific to magnetic instruments or measurements was preferred. The deadline to retain new experts was fast approaching so we quickly went to work to find the best fit for the case.

The expert

We found an expert with a B.S. in metallurgical engineering and materials science and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from world renowned universities who was a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering. His expertise was in nanocrystalline magnetic materials, and his research involved understanding the magnetic property of materials and the evaluation of magnetization as a function of yield and temperature. Well-published, he had authored over 350 papers and was the Principal Editor of the Journal of Materials Science. Additionally, he owned 2 patents in the subject area. Finally, he had prior expert witness experience including ITC cases.
